What to Look for in Juicing Machines

When it comes to purchasing juicing machines, there are some things you should consider before throwing down your hard-earned money.

Juicers range from the affordable to the oh-my-goodness-that’s-expensive level. However, a higher price doesn’t necessarily mean you are buying the best option for your needs.

If you are in the market for a juicer, there are a few questions and considerations that will help you make your decision.

How long are you willing to wait for your juices?

This is an important question when it comes to choosing a juicer. If you want to minimize the time it takes to make your juices, a centrifugal is the better option. However, if time isn’t an issue, and you want to get the most out of your produce, a masticating juicer may work better for you.

Are you serious about juicing?

You should really consider whether you see yourself sticking with the juicing lifestyle. Some juicers can be quite expensive, and it just wouldn’t make sense to spend hundreds of dollars on something you only use for a month or so. If you are 100% sure that you are going to stick with juicing, and make it a part of your daily life, it will be worth it for you to spend a little more on a higher quality juicer.


How much juice will you need to make?

When choosing juicing machines, the amount of juice you want to produce matters as well. If you are making juice for the entire family, a centrifugal model will allow you to produce more juice in a shorter amount of time. However, this juice will only be good for around 20 minutes, so make sure the family will be drinking it quickly.

If you are only making batches for yourself, a masticating juicer will take a bit longer, but the juice will also last up to three days when stored properly. It will take around 30 minutes for a masticating juicer to produce around 4 quarts of juice.

Masticating juice machines get their name from the chewing action that pulverizes the produce. After masticating, the juicer then presses the juices out of the pulp. This type operates at a much slower rate of speed than the centrifugal.

o Juices leafy greens, sprouts, herbs, and grasses easily
o Cold pressing preserves more of the nutrients
o Juices can be stored for up to three days
o Produces maximum juice extraction
o Minimizes foaming and separation of juices

• Cons
o Higher price
o Prep takes a bit longer due to more chopping
o More pulp makes it into the juices


Consider the Yield

When choosing juicing machines, you will also need to take into consideration the long-term costs associated with making your own juices. If you are serious about juicing for your health, you need to make sure that you use organic produce. This will make sure it is free from chemicals and pesticides, which results in healthier juices. However, organic produce is more expensive than the traditional variety, and that should be a consideration.

Masticating juicers, which are also the more expensive of the main juicer types, provide a higher yield with each batch of juice, with some producing as much as 35% more. This means you will actually be saving money on your organic produce over time by choosing this type of juicer.
