The Best Raw Foods for Detox

When it comes to cleansing and detoxification, there are plenty of options out there. A one to five day juicing cleanse is a fantastic way to detox, but if you’re looking for another way that allows solid foods, raw foods are another great option. While you will still need to restrict what you put in your body, you will be able to eat. The best of these detox diets focus on raw foods, which are those that are in their most natural form. The following raw foods are some of the best to include if you really want to help your body get rid of all those toxins.

Apples

Apples are an excellent choice that will help your liver in the detoxification process. These fruits are high in a fiber known as pectin. This fiber binds with any heavy metals that may be lurking in your digestive system, preventing them from entering the blood stream and making their way to the liver. Instead, they are eliminated naturally to give your liver less toxins to deal with.

Carrots

Carrots are a raw super food, whether eaten or juiced. These veggies contain high amounts of vitamins A, B6, C, and K, as well as potassium. Additionally, they contain high amounts of a protein called glutathione, which works as an antioxidant. This substance contains sulfur molecules, which attract toxins and free radicals before they can enter the bloodstream. This gives your liver a break, as they are eliminated from the body before they ever make it to the liver.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Any effective raw food detox has to include cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cabbage. These foods are high in glucosinolates and other compounds that help to neutralize toxins in the body. Glucosinolates help with detoxification by increasing the production of enzymes in the liver, which increases the amount of toxins that are flushed out during the detox diet.

Citrus

Citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, and grapefruit contain high amounts of vitamin C, which does wonders for detoxing. Vitamin C helps to flush out toxins by making them water soluble, so that they can be eliminated from the body much faster. Additionally, these fruits increase the production of bile, which further increases the amount of toxins that are flushed from the body.

Green, Leafy Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, dandelion, and mustard greens are packed with beneficial antioxidants and nutrients that the body needs. They are also high in chlorophyll, which helps to counteract the toxins in the body. This counteraction helps with detoxification by decreasing the amount of toxins that have to go through the liver to be removed from the body. Like citrus, these veggies also increase bile production, helping to flush the system.

Eating Raw Foods

When choosing the raw foods for your detox, it is important that you are only using organic fruits and vegetables. This will ensure that you are not adding more pesticides, chemicals, and other toxins that your body has to flush, allowing it to focus on getting rid of those that have already built up in your system.
