One of the hottest buzz words in health and weight loss is a dietary juicing cleanse or detox. While some of these truly are a fad that not only provide questionable results, but are also dangerous, others have been proven effective – and much safer. If you are interested in starting a detoxification diet, a three day juicing cleanse may be a great option for you. However, before you just jump right in, you should take the time to understand how cleansing actually benefits your body, and helps you achieve your health goals.

Understanding the Cleanse
First, you need to know what makes a good, healthy cleanse. The answer is fresh vegetable juices. You make your own juices using organic vegetables and fruits to eliminate the potential for pesticides, preservatives, and other harmful toxins to enter your body. The number one goal is to help your body get rid of built up toxins in the body to essentially give your liver a break. However, there are also many other benefits that you may not be aware of.

• Intestines – The intestines also work hard to protect the body from unwanted toxins, but the combination of additives, unhealthy fats and carbs, and even medications can disrupt the normal processes. This can lead to a number of health issues, including an unbalanced environment of microbes, gas and bloating, and even more serious problems that can lead to syndromes such as leaky gut, which describes tears in the intestinal walls. Doing a cleansing for more than three days can decrease your metabolism, which means you are more likely to gain any weight lost plus a bit more back after you resume normal eating. Additionally, your body needs other nutrients, such as protein and healthy fats that you can’t get enough of when relying solely on juice.

As you are consuming less during the cleanse, this will also help you decrease your appetite due to your body growing accustomed to less food. This will remain even after the juice fast, helping you to have better control when you resume normal, healthier eating.

When done carefully, and under a doctor’s supervision, a juice cleanse can provide many benefits for your body. If you are ready to make some changes, heal your body, and your doctor says that you are healthy enough to do it, detoxing with juice may be the perfect option.
