6 Unbeatable Reasons to Add Beets to Your Juice Today!

 

Welcome Vida Juicer to Wellness Wednesday!  I’m Doreen Correia and so grateful you are here with me in my kitchen today.  Today we will be discussing beets.

 

I have to admit, I have never been a big fan of beets, in fact, I absolutely HATED them, that is, until I started juicing them and understanding all their health benefits!  After a few recipe attempts, I found a beet juice combo that I enjoyed AND it allowed me to reap the health benefits. Beets are a powerhouse and beet juice should be considered a superfood!

 

  1. Beets are Heart Healthy:One reason that a veggie-based diet is good for the heart and cardiovascular system is because vegetables are loaded with nitrates.  They are found in all vegetables, but are especially abundant in beets. Naturally occurring plants nitrates lower blood pressure and protect the heart. The nitric oxide from plant nitrates helpsrelax and increase the size of your blood vessels, helping blood to flow through your veins easier.

 

  1. Beets Boost Your Stamina: I’ve chugged beet juice before an intense workout and it worked! It’s an excellent pre-workout choice when you need an extra boost. In fact, studies have shown that drinking beet juice before a workout can extend your exercise time by 16%. This boost is linked to the plant nitrates that reduce oxygen intake making exercising less tiring.

 

  1. Beets are anti-inflammatory: Beets contain a nutrient called betaine. Betaine is essential to cardiovascular health, protects your body at the cellular level, and shields your body against liver disease. Betaine can help fight inflammation by protecting your cells from environmental stress and protects the liver by reducing fatty deposits.

 

  1. Beets Have Anti-Cancer Properties: Phytonutrients are the compounds inside of plant cells that give them their vibrant color.  Beets get their color from phytonutrients called betalains. Betalains are powerful antioxidants that can reduce the occurrence of several types of cancer.


  1. Beets are High in Essential Nutrients:  Beets are rich in vitamin c, folate, manganese and potassium which are powerful antioxidants that fight free-radical damage. Don’t forget to juice the greens!  The tops contain calcium and vitamin K that help to prevent bone loss.

Beets Support Liver Detox: The enzymes in beets support the liver’s detoxification pathways.  Phase 1 in the liver detox process is a preliminary removal of toxins.  Phase two makes those toxins water-soluble for removal from the body through bodily functions. After phase 2 toxins are excreted through body fluids.

Beets Red Green Juice

Here is one of my favorite beet juices:

The Yummy Red Green Juice

  • 1 small beet
  • 1 sweet apple (anything but Granny Smith)
  • 3-4 stalks celery
  • 1 lime or 1 lemon, unpeeled
  • A handful parsley
  • Optional addition: Ginger

This drink is excellent for elimination, which in itself is the biggest benefit of green juicing. Beet juice is sweet, nutritious and fantastic for your body.

Beet takes a little while to get used to and the red color gets everywhere, so be careful. Apple reduces bad cholesterol, improves intestine functionality, all of which helps toward elimination.

Lime and lemon will give it the citrusy kick, and parsley is a nice herbal addition. Together, this is wonderful elimination recipe, and you can use it when you feel bloated or heavy and when your digestive track has slowed down.
