4 Myths About Eating Paleo

By on October 26, 2015

One of the greatest concerns of modern men and women is how to lose those extra pounds more efficiently, and achieve the physique they have always dreamed of. For this reason, the issue of effective diets has gotten a lot of attention from some of the world’s greatest experts in the field of nutrition.

All of their hard work has resulted in a somewhat shocking discovery: the solution did not lie in looking forward, but in going backwards.

Resorting to the diet our distant ancestors in the Stone Age were most often subjected to seemed the only logical answer. However, this diet (Paleo) is often a subject of myths and urban legends. Because of this, we present some of the biggest myths and misconceptions about the Paleo diet.

What is the Paleo diet?

Now, before we start talking about myths regarding Paleo, it would be wise if we were to first determine what the Paleo diet actually is. The answer to this is quite simple: the Paleo diet (or Paleolithic diet) is a set of eating habits that tends to mimic foods our Stone Age ancestors might likely have eaten.

Amongst the nutritious arsenal of Paleo there are most often such items as meat, nuts and berries. Naturally, this diet excludes some things our ancestors were yet unaware of, such as dairy products.

Paleo diet is all meat

Some claim that the Paleo diet is all about meat. Nothing could possibly be further from the truth. Even though there is a popular belief that Stone Age cultures were exclusively carnivorous, back in the day, meat was a rare commodity. Since it was not that easy to hunt with bow, arrow and a Stone Age spear, and there was no way of conserving that meat, our ancestors had to find another solution to their problem. Because of this, they were forced to find some other, in their age more sustainable, solutions, like gathering.

This caused their diet to consist only partially of meat and mostly of roots, vegetables and carb-rich fruits like blueberries. Even though you may believe that Paleo is boring and one-sided, there are in truth numerous healthy and delicious recipes you can try. Experiment a little with your daily menu, and try to find new ideas which will fit into your new way of life.

Paleo is expensive

Even starting to talk about this issue is quite ridiculous. First off, this issue is relative, but it mostly has to do with your local market. The Paleo diet is extremely versatile, which means that every single nutrient here has a lot of alternatives. This amazing trait will allow you to customize your diet in order to fit it into your budget. It also allows you to browse the local market and in this way endorse your regional economy. Finding a diet as flexible as Paleo is a rare commodity indeed and not something to be taken lightly. In other words, whether your Paleo is going to be expensive or not is completely up to you.

Paleo is completely efficient even on its own

Yet again this is something that is up to interpretation. Of course, even on its own Paleo can make a difference, however in order to truly see some results you need to utilize it with proper training. Just think about it, all that Stone Age diet was originally followed with a lot of different physical activities, and with that in mind it would be wise for you to do the same. On the other hand, we do live in the 21st century so why not use this privilege to further enhance your efforts with a proper supplementation.

Paleo is a short-sighted diet

Out of all the accusations uttered at the expense of Paleo, this one is perhaps the single most flawed one yet. Paleo is not something that you use to lose a few pounds and then immediately discard. It is more of a lifestyle than a diet.

By staying on the Paleo track for just several weeks you will be able to see, as well as feel, all the health advantages that it brings. This alone will make you almost unable to return to the old ways. For this reason alone, no one can say that Paleo is a fad diet, since all the weight that you lose will most probably be gone forever. A notion that is nearly impossible to top.

Due to the nature of their lifestyle, our distant ancestors needed all the help they could get. From these nutrients they gained energy to tame nature and in only a couple of million years rapidly climb the food chain it took evolution eons to establish. Because of this, we could say that the Paleo diet is the diet of a natural winner. Take your health and the state of your body into your own hands and this will definitely be a decision that you won’t come to regret.
